A two-point sling lets the shooter pull the rifle into the support shoulder, tightening the body’s grip on the gun in standing, kneeling, or sitting positions. Traditional Service Rifle and similar disciplines use the sling extensively.

In modern precision rifle competition, slings are more often used for transport between stages than as shooting aids. Bipod and rear bag work dominate most stages now. The sling technique still has real value where a bipod isn’t feasible.
