Match Ammunition
Also: Match Ammo
Factory ammunition built to tighter tolerances for accuracy, sitting between bulk loads and a fully tuned handload in performance.
Match ammunition is factory ammunition loaded to closer tolerances than bulk lines, using selected components and tighter control over charge weight, case dimensions, and bullet seating. It typically pairs a high-quality projectile, often an open-tip-match bullet with a high ballistic coefficient, with consistent brass and primers to keep velocity spread low. The point is repeatable accuracy that a competitor can trust at distance.
In practice, match ammunition occupies the middle ground between cheap general-purpose loads and a carefully tuned handload. It usually shoots tighter groups and holds velocity more consistently than bulk match-grade plinking ammunition, while costing more per round. Many shooters use a proven match load as their standard until they decide that handloading can wring out the last increment of precision their rifle is capable of.
