Gunsmithing
The trade of building, fitting, and repairing firearms. In precision rifles it covers the machining steps that turn a factory action into a tack-driver.
Gunsmithing spans everything from basic repair to the precision machine work that defines an accurate rifle. On the accurize side it means truing the action square, cutting a match chamber to correct headspace, threading and indexing a barrel, recutting a crown, and bedding the action into the stock.
It is where components become a system. A blueprinted action, a quality barrel, and a careful chamber job are only as good as the fit between them, and that fit is the gunsmith’s work. Much of what separates a custom precision rifle from a factory one is gunsmithing, not parts.
