Most precision shooters hold for wind. Wind changes between shots; chasing it with the turret means missing the shift. With a holdover, you can re-read the wind between rounds and shift your aim without touching glass.

Dialing wind makes sense when the wind is steady and the shot is well-rehearsed: F-Class, benchrest, certain ELR steel matches where conditions hold for the string. In wind that’s pulsing, hold and trust the reticle.
