A throw lever is a small arm that clamps onto or screws into the magnification ring of a scope, giving the shooter a longer arm to change power quickly. Instead of pinching a stiff, knurled ring with bare fingers, you sweep the lever with a thumb or palm, which works even with gloves on or when the rifle is shouldered. Some optics ship with one integrated, while many take an aftermarket lever sized to the eyepiece.

The convenience matters most on a first focal plane scope, where the reticle subtensions are only correct at certain magnifications and the shooter may need to swing the power up or down between shots. A throw lever turns that adjustment into a fast, repeatable motion, letting you dump magnification to find a target in close and crank it back up to read the reticle at distance.
