Temperature-stable powder is a class of smokeless powder engineered so its performance stays nearly constant across a wide span of ambient temperatures. Ordinary propellants tend to generate more pressure and higher muzzle velocity when hot and less when cold, because their burn rate responds to temperature. A temperature-stable formulation is treated to flatten that response.

For long range shooting this consistency is valuable. A powder that holds velocity from a freezing morning to a hot afternoon keeps the drop solution stable, so a dope chart built in one season still tracks in another. That reliability removes one common variable when a load is pushed toward its distance ceiling.
