Taper Crimp
A light crimp that squeezes the case mouth straight inward without rolling it over, used where neck tension alone will not hold the bullet.
A taper crimp closes the case neck in a gentle, even cone so the mouth presses inward against the bullet without folding over into a groove. Because it does not require a cannelure, it works on smooth-sided bullets that a roll crimp cannot grab. The result is a uniform grip that resists bullet movement while keeping the case mouth square for reliable feeding and headspacing.
This crimp is worth using where friction by itself is not enough, such as heavy-recoiling rifles, tubular magazines, or semi-automatic actions that slam rounds forward during feeding. For most precision bolt-rifle handloads, careful neck tension holds the bullet steady and no crimp is applied at all. When a taper crimp is used, it should be light and consistent, since an aggressive setting can deform the bullet or distort the case and open up groups.
