A hybrid ogive starts as a secant-ogive near the tip, where the sleeker curve gives aerodynamic efficiency, then transitions to a tangent-ogive shape where the bullet meets the rifling. The aim is to capture most of the secant form’s high ballistic coefficient without inheriting its fussiness.

That blend matters because a pure secant nose is notoriously sensitive to seating depth, often shooting well in only a narrow band of jump. The hybrid smooths the contact zone so the bullet tolerates a wider range of seating, which makes it far easier to tune in load development. Many modern long range match bullets use a hybrid profile for exactly this reason.
