Flash Hider
A muzzle device that disrupts the burning gas at the muzzle to reduce visible flash and preserve the shooter's night vision.
A flash hider is a muzzle-device designed to break up and cool the column of burning propellant gas as it leaves the muzzle, which suppresses the bright fireball known as muzzle-flash. Prong and slotted designs work by mixing the unburnt gas with outside air before it can ignite, dimming the signature that would otherwise mark the shooter’s position and bloom in their own vision in low light.
A flash hider is not the same tool as a muzzle-brake, which redirects gas to fight recoil and often increases flash and blast rather than hiding them. Shooters who prioritize a low visual signature, especially at dusk or in darkness, choose a flash hider, accepting that it does little to reduce felt recoil.
