Extreme Long Range
Also: ELR
Shooting beyond roughly 1,500 yards as a discipline of its own, the regime where cartridge choice, scope capacity, and wind reading stop being forgiving.
ELR is the slice of long-range shooting where the variables stop being forgiving. Transonic flight, larger wind calls, and scope elevation that runs out before the target gets in the dot are all in play. Everything that’s a rounding error at 600 yards becomes a hit-or-miss decision at a mile.
The line isn’t an exact number. NRL ELR competitions cap at 2,000 yards. King of 2 Miles starts at 1,500. Mile shots are commonly counted as ELR; sub-thousand isn’t.
