Designated Marksman
Also: DMR
A role and rifle class that bridges the standard rifleman and the dedicated sniper, using a magnified optic to extend reliable hits past iron-sight range.
A designated marksman, and the designated marksman rifle or DMR, fills the gap between the standard rifleman and the dedicated sniper. The role extends a unit’s reach by giving one shooter the tools and training to hit targets well beyond ordinary iron sights range, without taking on the specialized fieldcraft of a full sniper. It is a practical compromise built around speed and reach together.
The rifle class is usually built on a semi-automatic action so the marksman can deliver fast follow-up shots, paired with a magnified scope for precise aiming. That combination pushes the shooter’s effective range past what a service rifle offers, while keeping the volume of fire a sniper’s bolt gun typically gives up.
